Zambia's Daka Grabs Injury-Time Goal for Zambia Against Mali in the Africa Cup of Nations.

Patson Daka celebrating his crucial goal

Patson Daka ended a 20-month goal drought for Zambia with his last-gasp header in Morocco.

Zambia's star striker emerged as the match-saver for his nation as his dying-moments header secured a thrilling 1-1 share of the points against Mali at the 2025 continental finals in Morocco.

Mali Takes First-Half Lead

Lassine Sinayoko had put Mali ahead just after the hour mark in the tournament's opening group clash at the Stade Mohammed V, drilling home from close range after his initial attempt from a set-piece had been deflected.

Mali dominated possession and were awarded an golden chance to go in front in the closing stages of the first half after a Malian forward was brought down in the penalty area by Chipolopolo defender Matthews Banda.

The designated penalty taker took responsibility for Mali but his low effort was superbly saved by Zambia shot-stopper Willard Mwanza.

Daka's Dramatic Intervention

Daka eventually salvaged a draw for the 2012 Afcon winners, who were largely dominated by the physical dominance of the Malians until Banda's pinpoint pass was powered home by the striker.

Tournament Outlook

This draw leaves both sides two points behind host nation Morocco in the Group A table after Morocco claimed victory in their opening game 2-0 against the Coelacanths at the weekend.

Zambia will stay in the city to play their second fixture against their next opponents on Friday, while The Eagles journey to Rabat for a crucial showdown against Morocco.
