Helicopter Twirls Out of Control into Palm Groves at Frequented Southern California Shoreline

A helicopter flying above a crowded southern California shoreline suddenly started spinning uncontrollably, finally dropping height and crashing into a row of palm groves as beachgoers observed.

Recordings uploaded on social media depict the chopper starting to spin near Huntington Beach then plunging in the direction of the border of the beach, where it gets stuck between palm groves and a staircase adjacent to the shoreline route.

Emergency Response Details

Local firefighters reported five persons were rushed to the hospital including a pair who were in the helicopter and were “rescued from the debris” subsequent to the crash on that day.

Three individuals on the street were hurt. Specifics on their injuries were not yet released.

The reason for the accident was not yet disclosed.

The department said the chopper was associated with an yearly “Cars and Copters” benefit occasion planned for the following day.
