Chiefs Confirm Domestic Violence Allegations Connected to Player Rashee Rice
The NFL franchise issued a statement on Wednesday evening indicating they are aware of domestic violence allegations made public in social media posts by a former girlfriend of wide receiver Rashee Rice and were in contact with the league office.
The team omitted the name of the player by name in their statement and stated they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.
Claims Shared on Social Media
The woman, who also did not mention the athlete by name, posted a set of images on social media that appeared to show signs of physical abuse. Jones did say the individual in question was the father of her children, and reports indicate she has two children with the football player, whom the Chiefs selected in the second round.
Police Reports Currently Not on File
No police reports were available in the Kansas City suburb where the alleged abuse is said to have taken place.
Rice's Recent Legal Issues
Rice missed the first six games of this season following an NFL suspension for his role in causing a multi-vehicle accident on a Dallas highway that resulted in several individuals hurt. Rice was sentenced 30 days in jail and five years’ probation after entering a guilty plea to serious offenses.
On the field, Rice finished the year with 53 receptions for 571 receiving yards and five TDs as the Kansas City finished with a losing record and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first occasion in a ten-year span.
